One War

The movie opens unknown pages of history of the World War Second.

May, 8, 1945. Maxim Prokhorov, major of People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs, arrives at a small northern island. There live eleven people: five young women, five children from one to three years, and the captain Karp Nichiporuk. The women work in a fish processing sovkhoz, dry fish for sending to the front. The only link between the island and the “mainland” is Mikhalych, an old man who comes in a boat to take the fish.

As it becomes clear, the young mothers were exiled to the island from the territories occupied by fascists, and their children are the children of German occupied.

Arrival of the major or breaks the casual life on the island. The major has to “clean up” island and the nearest settlements. The military man authorities plan to organize in the region a training camp for saboteurs, and the island well be escaped from maps. In the morning a boat will come to take the mothers with children.

At the night of May, 9, the women known about the German capitulation, their hopes for forgiveness and return home becomes certainty… They are even allowed to celebrate the Victory, only the major and Karp Nichiporuk know that in the morning on island there will be arrived a boat and will take away women in camps, and their children will be in shelter.
